What does an access control system offer?

Access control will offer a secure, convenient, and flexible way of controlling who has access to our facilities and when that access is allowed. The system will add an extra layer of safety and security to each building and secure area(s), especially during those times when less staff and students are onsite.

What do I need to do now?

Remember to bring your badge every day! Your Staff ID Badge is your key to Runshaw College Campus and without it you will not be able to travel freely across campus.

Will all staff be able to access all areas?

Most areas will be available to all staff. Nevertheless, for security reasons, there will be some areas that will be restricted to certain cohorts of staff. If your badge doesn’t unlock an area that you believe you should have access to, please contact the Service Desk.

How will the system impact students?

Most access control doors will not be activated during normal college hours when students are onsite. The Facilities team will be in touch with those college areas which may be affected by the changes, including evening theatre productions and adult classes.

What if I forget or lose my badge?

Please attend Service Desk in T109 as soon as possible and you will be issued with a temporary Staff ID badge (if you have forgotten it). If you have lost or damaged your badge, Service Desk will print you a new one. Your previous badge will no longer work on the system and will need to be disposed of securely.

We reserve the right to charge schools/functions if a member of staff regularly loses their badge.

What if my badge does not work?

Please attend Service Desk in T109 as soon as possible.

How do I access the Service Desk without a badge?

The Service Desk is located on the ground floor of Tyndale in room T109. You can access the service without a badge via the pathway at the rear of Tyndale, near the student smoking facility.

Will the doors secured by the new system unlock during a fire evacuation?

All applicable doors are linked to the fire alarm system, meaning they will unlock in the event of an alarm activation. In the unlikely event this doesn’t work, an emergency release button is available. These buttons should only be used in the event of an emergency.

Could a first aider be restricted in accessing a casualty?

First aiders will be given access to most areas across campus.

How do I use the new access control hardware?

Please see the key on the next page.

Is there anything else I need to know?

To help maintain security and H&S, we ask that access control doors and fire doors are not wedged open. We also ask staff to be vigilant of non-staff tailgating through secure doors. If you have any immediate security concerns, please contact the Service Desk who will contact the Security team.
