(Multi-Factor Authentication)?
Yes, you can select “Phone” as an authentication method within Outlook web so you can opt to receive a text code (or an automated phone call) to authenticate. If you watch the following video Camilla navigates to the section where you can select this (around 1 min 40s):

Please bear in mind however that MFA will be mandated for Remote Desktop access from Tuesday but it will only work with the authenticator app (we have tested this rigorously), therefore if you wish to access files/folders outside of core college teaching hours you will have to do so on-site or using OneDrive.

If you have watched the MFA videos and read through our knowledgebase article and are still unable to set up MFA, please raise a self service ticket here:

I would prefer not to use my personal mobile for college work including MFA, is there an alternative?
Unfortunately there are no alternatives, you Please be aware that no data is being stored on your mobile device, it is simply used by the systems to prove something is in your possession. You can also opt in to this method to secure your own personal email/social media as well, E.g. Facebook, Gmail, hotmail, outlook.com, Instagram, Twitter, Government Gateway. The use of MFA is to help protect your data, your colleagues and student’s data, etc.
You can select to receive a code via text message or phone call however (see above FAQ) if you do not wish to use install the authenticator app, there are drawbacks though as described in the answer to the question above.
If you still have concerns please raise a self-service ticket here where your line manager can review and discuss alternative solutions with you.

Authenticator registration has timed out error
The fix is to Open Authenticator app, Three dots in right hand corner, Turn off battery optimization & this will allow the MFA app to run correctly without this error.

We advise against copying files/folders to your OneDrive from your Shared Drives (G: or T: Drive, S: Drive, etc), if you need to access any of those from home please consult with your line manager as we are beginning to look at trialing OneDrive for Group Drives.

Due to the heightened cyber threat on our doorstep, these are unfortunately necessary steps to keep Runshaw's IT Systems and Data safe. MFA is not optional for any new purchase of Office 365, Microsoft has enforced it on all new business subscriptions so if we were a new customer we would not have the option of not having MFA.
How do I turn off App Lock on my Microsoft Authenticator App?
- Open Authenticator app
- Click the three dots in the top right
- Settings
- Press the toggle button next to "Applock" which should turn it off for Authenticator
(This will only turn off the App lock on the app, not your Phone/Tablet)
