What is Multi-Factor Authentication

Multi-factor authentication is an added step to the sign-in process, which improves security by requiring you to use a separate device to help verify your identity.

Setup Instructions

Please follow the instructions below to set up the Microsoft Authenticator app.

  1. Go to either the Play Store (if you have an Android device) or the App Store (if you have an Apple device) and search for the Microsoft Authenticator app (pictured below).

  1. Go to the following link

  2. Input your Runshaw email (e.g. AAA123456@student.runshaw.ac.uk or ABCD01@runshaw.ac.uk) and password

  3. Press ‘Next’ on the following screen to begin the Multi-Factor Authentication process

    5. If you have completed Step 1 and downloaded the app onto your mobile device then click the ‘Next’ button on the following screen

    6. Open the Microsoft Authenticator app on your phone and click ‘Next’ on your PC/laptop on the following screen

    7. On your mobile phone, open the Microsoft Authenticator app and click the '+' icon at the top of the screen.

What Happens After The Initial Setup

When you use the College systems at home (and occasionally in college) you will be asked to confirm it is you who is signing in to your account.

When you try to login you will receive a popup on your phone where you will need to click Approve. The popup will look like the following screenshot:

If You Don’t Have A Smart Phone Or Are Running Into Issues

  • If you don’t have a smart phone please contact the Service Desk

  • If you do have a smart phone but are running into issues with the configuration, please contact the Service Desk.

Email/Calendar Apps On Your Mobile Phones

Our strong advice is that you use the Outlook app on your mobile phone:

We have found that Google Gmail or Apple Mail works well. We have encountered issues when using the built-in Android mail app, where syncing your work and personal calendars has been unsuccessful. We are therefore unable to support this type of issue.

If the User Has A New Personal Device

https://aad.portal.azure.com/

Go to Users
Search for User & Find user
Click on Authentication Methods
Find old Device, click on Three dots & Delete
Then Click Require Re-register MFA

Then it's just standard, go to Web Mail, it'll show 'more information required' and you can setup MFA as above
