File Shortcuts - Find File Location

With the changes we have made to shared drive mappings any desktop shortcuts you have created to files and folders on a departmental group drive will no longer work. If you are unsure of where the files or folder was located, you can do the following to help you find it:

  • Navigate to the location of your shortcut (likely to be your desktop)

  • Right click on the shortcut

  • Select Properties

  • In Target: you can see the previous file path, so you can tell whether it will now be on the G: (support) or T: (teaching) drive and also which area it was from (Humanities in the following example):

  • If you click in the Target: field and then scroll along to the right, you can see the file or folder path the shortcut was pointing to:
