Text Messages

1. The maximum number of characters you can send in a text message is 160.

2. There is a counter on the text message page which counts down from 160.

3. If you send more than 160 characters then your message will be broken down in to chunks of 153 characters before being sent to the recipient’s handset and will allow up to 3 messages to be sent.

4. Your department will be charged one text message for each 153 character message you send so a message of 420 characters will be sent and charged as three text messages.
