Student/Staff Communications

Information on sending bulk communications via text messaging or email to groups of students, staff and parents. This application is accessed via the Staff Portal and access is controlled by the Service Desk. SMT members have access by default for emergency purposes (Staff and Parent texting is always limited to SMT and IT Services).

Authorisation for using these functions should be approved by the Student Services Manager. 

Step-by-step guide

  1. Click Student Communications from the Applications Menu on the Staff Portal

  2. Select the telephone image (text messages) or envelope image (email) to select the type of correspondence. 

  3. Enter the message details. Please note the limits of text messages here

  4. Click select recipients

  5. Select the main area of recipients from the Area drop down list (Programme, Student Groups, Staff List etc.)

  6. Some areas have additional options (e.g. which student groups) 

  7. Click send.



Before sending your message, you have the option to send yourself a preview (you must enter your mobile number for text messages). This is recommended if you've used any special formatting to check the message comes through as you're expecting.
